The second Friday of every month always pleases with Art After Hours in historic downtown Wake Forest. Many galleries will be open with artist receptions, wine tasting and always great music! This week we’ve got Pumpkin Patches, Pancake Breakfast Fundraisers, Autumn Arts Festival, AND the 2011 South Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships! HOW EXCITING!

Public Power Week

The Town of Wake Forest and Wake Forest Power are joining more than 2,000 other not-for-profit utilities in celebrating Public Power Week. Public Power Week is also Customer Appreciation Week. As Wake Forest’s way of saying “thank you” to its valued customers, Town staff will serve popcorn and hand out assorted giveaways each day in the town hall lobby. Oct. 4 is Kids’ Day—learn about electric safety and see a Wake Forest Power bucket truck. Oct. 5 is Customer Appreciation Day—Wake Forest will serve refreshments, provide tours of town hall, and give away assorted prizes. Oct. 6 is Seniors’ Day—staff from Resources for Seniors and the W.E.B. DuBois Center will offer information about specific programs and services they offer senior adults in our community. Oct. 7 is Energy Fair Day—Wake Forest Power personnel will be on hand from 11 am – 2 pm and 5:30 – 7:30 pm to explain how weatherizing your home can result in significant savings on your electric bill. Annual Golf Tournament for the Kids

Firing Range Training

Police Department Firing Range, behind Flaherty Park Community Center
Residents in the area are advised that the Wake Forest Police Department will conduct firing range training at the police department firing range, located behind the Flaherty Park Community Center. The firing range is utilized by Wake Forest Police officers who require instruction and practice in order to obtain current certification in the use of firearms. 2011 South Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships

The Triangle Figure Skating Club will host the South Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships at the Polar Ice House in the Factory. This is an awesome opportunity for anyone wanting to see some of the best skaters in figure skating. Art Opening at Sunflower Studio featuring Nancy Farantatos

For many years Nancy Farantatos has been a pastel artist. She was never completely satisfied with the medium and began to incorporate pieces of wood, fabric material and paper into the design in an effort to create texture and dimension. About a year ago, she had an idea to create art on wood that was movable. She cut pieces of wood to revolve on dowels suspended in a deep wood frame. She designed abstract art on both sides. This evolved into stationary designs of nature and figures. She exaggerated the shapes and added repetitive design elements. Then the design is cut into pieces and placed on another piece of wood at different levels to create dimension. A simple wooden frame completes the piece. “I finally have found my element. Autumn Arts Festival: Art In Store

The Wake Forest Downtown Revitalization Corporation and the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association will host “Autumn Arts Festival: Art in Store” on Saturday, October 9. This year’s Autumn Arts Festival will be a new format featuring “Art In Store” with artists in each retail store and entertainment in the GC5 Vintage and Gifts Parking Lot, Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot, and municipal parking lot on South White Street. This family-friendly event will also feature children’s crafts and a theatrical production of the Ugly Duckling at 3 pm sponsored by the Town of Wake Forest.
