Camping in Wake Forest NC – A Quick Yet Peaceful Getaway Close to Home!

There are some spectacular spots for camping in the Carolinas from the mountains to the beaches and the many lakes that dot this breathtaking state! With Falls Lake being right here in Wake Forest NC there are quite a few GORGEOUS camping locations!

Both sites in this post are located on the perimeter of Falls Lake.

Shinleaf:

Shinleaf is a back to basics type of destination.  Of all of the site located around Falls Lake, Shinleaf has the least amenities.  There is a two-mile portion of the Mountains-To-Sea Trail that pretty much follows the shore line at Shinleaf.  There are 89 campsites thoughtfully sited in the woods well away from the parking lot (typically a quarter-mile) and each is equipped with a tent pad, picnic table and a grill. Mulch toilets and drinking water are located within easy reach.  Check out this link for details on where specific sites are located.

 Holly Point:

This is the newest of the campgrounds!  There are approximately 156 campsites with water and electric hookups or no hookups at all – you decide!  Holly Point also has hot showers, RV camping, community building, picnic areas and picnic shelters.  Check out this link for details on where specific sites are located.

Campsites for any of the campgrounds are on a first come first served basis. If you are planning on staying for more than a week you can reserve a campsite and, believe me, there are some sites that have breathtaking views in the morning of the sunrise!

Pets are welcome in all of the campgrounds provided they are on a 6′ leash or shorter at all times.

The North Carolina State Parks website is extremely useful and can help you decide which park may be right for you!
